White Out

When I first caught wind of the Bloggers Do It Better movement from Jamie at Work Your Closet, I could not wait to be a part of it. Bloggers Do It Better is an initiative, started by Kristina of the hit fashion blog Pretty, Shiny, Sparkly, to showcase real girls, with real style, wearing real trends.

Every so often, Kristina will post a fashion challenge—the first challenge was color blocking. Participating bloggers will post their looks on their blog, and all the looks are showcased on Pretty, Shiny, Sparkly.

This fashion project is great for so many reasons. Say there is a particular trend you are really wanting to try, but the looks in fashion magazines are unattainable to you. With the Bloggers Do It Better initiative, you get to see a bunch of looks from real women and use that as inspiration.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you probably know that I’m not big on outfit posts, but I do think they are good to have on my blog every now and then to sort of build some “style” credibility with my readership.

So here I am, joining the initiative with the second challenge, which is white out.

The story behind my white-out look:

When I first found out our friends’ rehearsal dinner was going to be a casual white party on the beach, I first thought, so fun! And so easy! I’d just find a cute white dress to wear. Well, four white dresses later (yeah, I’m on a first-name basis with UPS now), I realized it was not so easy to find an all-white dress that fit the occassion. So I decided to go with separates, and this is what I came up with. While this white skirt that I picked up from Express isn’t exactly what I was looking for, it does the job. I’ll be able to pair the skirt with many other tops in my closet, and the top will work with jeans and a blazer when the heat wave is over.
