Just to clear up any confusion, I’m talking about booties–whether they be open-toed, Oxford style, suede, leather–they are my current fashion crush. The always chic Alexa Chung (shown bel0w) has mastered incorporating them into a variety of looks.
I had a pair of Aldo booties on my fall wishlist, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for (they were a little Wicked Witch of the West-ish, right?). So I searched and searched and fell in love with this pair of B. Makowsky “Victoria” booties on Piperlime. They fit my criteria to the T: a slight Oxford touch, cuffed edges, black, and leather. But I encountered a slight problem: they were priced at a hefty $189.
As much as I loved these shoes, I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money on them. I searched for coupons and even enlisted the help of some other bloggers, but to no avail. I just had to forget about them.
But I didn’t. A few weeks ago, I went back to Piperlime to just “look,” and they were on sale for $139.50! Still a bit high, but much more reasonable than the $189. I was also able to find a 10% off coupon and scored free shipping.
The booties arrived just in time for our trip to Michigan. I was a bit worried about the fit, because the only review of the shoes on Piperlime at the time said the sizing felt a half-size larger. I never know if I should believe “sizing” reviews because I’m convinced that some people just don’t know what size they really are. I got lucky, because the shoes are a perfect fit.
In Michigan, where it was freezing for this Floridian, our friends’ rehearsal dinner was the perfect opp to break them in! I’ve also been trying to incorporate them into every outfit. Most recently, I paired them with a gray turtleneck and black skinny jeans, and I can’t wait to wear them all over NYC when we head up there next month.
And so the girl and her booties lived happily ever after :)

I have been going back through some of your posts that i’ve missed and I love this post! I recently ventured into the bootie world with my first purchase. I fell in love with this Calvin Klein pair at DSW but they made a weird “flatullance” sound whenever I walked :( I ended walking away with another pair and have been complimented several times in them. The best compliment was a sales girl in Juicy Couture (I was there for a friend, NOT for me!) who chased me down to tell me that my shoes were “fierce.”
